Insider  secrets  from  Maine  people  who  love  to  put  their  hands  in  the  dirt
There's no place in the world I'd rather be than in my garden, and I've met many people who share my passion.
It was inevitable that I would become a gardener. Raised in a rural community in northern Maine, I thought everyone in the world gardened. Born in Fort Kent, a small town that borders Canada, I was challenged by the rocky soils and cold temperatures of the St. John Valley (Zone 3).
Now living in Orono, I garden in heavy clay soil that stays wet too long and then dries into a solid, impenetrable, crusted mess.

But, I'm in Zone 5, and that somehow feels like I've moved to the tropics! It opens up many new possibilities, which is pretty much why I wrote this gardening book.
